Progressive Age Timeline Events

* 1882 Thomas Edison built the first electrical power station to light homes and businesses.
* 1915 Over nine million phones were being used to communicate. The inventor was Alexander Graham Bell.
* 1909 The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire killed over 100 people and helped convince people to make laws forcing factory safety.
* 1880 John D. Rockefeller and his Standard Oil Company owned 95% of the countries oil refineries creating a monopoly.
* By 1900 over four million immigrants had moved to America.
* 1882 Congress passed the Chinese Exclusion Act banning all Chinese people from immigrating to the US.
* By 1903 43 states had passed laws outlawing child labor.
* 1909 The NAACP was formed to work toward equal rights and opportunities for all African Americans.
* 1913 the 16th Amendment was passed, allowing the government to create an income tax
* 1919 the 19th Amendment passed giving women the right to vote.
* 1913 the 17th Amendment passed allowing direct election of Senators.
* 1919 the 18th Amendment passed prohibiting the sale of alcohol.

Thanksgiving!


Hello Everyone,
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you will have a wonderful vacation and enjoy your family and friends this weekend. I just wanted to remind everyone that students do have an assignment to work on over the break.

In the Social Studies Coach books, read and answer ALL questions from page 156- 160. Also remember to study for your exam scheduled for Thursday December 3rd, the first week we get back.
